NAAF Awards $140,000 in Research Grants
We are pleased to announce that we have awarded $140,000 to support two new research projects by deserving scientists to explore mechanisms that activate hair growth and define potential targets for future therapy!
This year’s awards bring the total amount NAAF has funded in alopecia areata research grants to more than $5.7 million.
Our research investment, which is targeted to exceed $550,000 over the next three years, will support eight projects—some new and some ongoing, some led by seasoned experts and some by young scientists—in a broad range of areas, including basic studies of molecular and cellular mechanisms, translational studies exploring novel therapeutic targets, and clinical studies testing potential treatments.
Our 2019 Research Funding Announcements drew a very strong pool of applications and we thank all the researchers who applied. We also thank this year’s review committee members who participated in our two-step, patient-centered review process and informed the selection of awarded grants from a large number of highly competitive applications. The extraordinary efforts of our entire research community continue to bring hope to all those affected by alopecia areata. We look forward to future discoveries.
