NAAF Advancing Alopecia Areata Research at AAD Annual Meeting

Apr 04, 2016

NAAF representatives traveled to Washington, D.C., this month to attend the largest dermatology event of the year — the 74th American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Annual Meeting, which was packed with outstanding educational sessions, poster exhibits, social programs, and endless networking opportunities. Exhilarating new interest in the field of alopecia areata research was evident throughout this five-day meeting, held March 4 to 9, with over 18,500 attendees from across the United States — and the world!

NAAF staffers participated in numerous medical and scientific groups that met in tandem with the AAD, including the North American Hair Research Society Scientific Session, the Coalition of Skin Diseases General Work Session and Annual Meeting, and the Women’s Dermatologic Society Annual Meeting. Members of NAAF’s Basic and Clinical Research Advisory Councils also met to review the progress of the Alopecia Areata Treatment Development Program and offer advice regarding future directions.

In addition, NAAF representatives staffed the Coalition of Skin Diseases exhibit booth to educate physicians about our diseases and inform them of the materials we provide to patients, and we met with 14 interested biopharmaceutical company representatives and investigators to promote and partner on the Alopecia Areata Treatment Development Program.

Contacts made at the 2016 AAD Annual Meeting are expected to yield exciting opportunities and partnerships for advancing alopecia areata research.
