| What is a Meet & Greet? |
As most of you know, for the last two years, the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) Spokesperson has been touring the United States and Canada as a member of both the Toronto Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks. For those who may be new to this all, Charlie Villanueva is an NBA Player who was first affected with alopecia areata at age of ten. Now 23, Charlie has alopecia universalis, and wants to use his place in the spotlight to educate the general public on alopecia areata, provide children with a role model and get the word out that individuals with alopecia areata aren’t only extremely healthy, but can be extremely talented, too!
Though Charlie had to end last season earlier than anticipated due to a shoulder injury, his motivation has only been amplified because of the time away from both his game, and his mission. We are very excited about the refreshed energy from Charlie and the Milwaukee Bucks organization, and are looking forward to sharing with all fans the plans we have for increasing alopecia areata awareness, raising funds, and providing even more children with such a notable role model during the 2007-2008 season.
Due to popular demand, the Charlie’s Angels Meet & Greet Program will be brought back this season. This program, which was conceived two years ago through the joint efforts of the Toronto Raptors, Charlie and NAAF, will take place in select cities across the country and Canada. Working closely with the Milwaukee Bucks and volunteers in select cities, NAAF will organize a series of meet & greets, giving children with alopecia areata the opportunity to meet Charlie Villanueva. Many factors go into determining where the meet & greets will take place, and we are very excited about the final line-up for the 2007-2008 season!
Of course, Charlie’s work with NAAF goes above and beyond this program, and our support for such an inspirational young man goes beyond the arena. Please keep checking our website for current information on NAAF, the Milwaukee Bucks and Charlie.
