NAAF Receives Competitive Assistance Grant!

On Monday, June 4, 2007, the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) received word that we had been selected from 15 applicants to be one of four organizations to receive the National Health Council’s Technical Assistance Grant. Sharing this honor with NAAF were the Epilepsy Foundation of America, Huntington’s Disease Society of America and CHADD: Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

The National Health Council launched this initiative to provide technical assistance to selected Voluntary Health Agency (VHA) members in an effort to build capacity and expertise in grassroots activism. Using a competitive application process, four organizations were selected and will receive $25,000 in consulting services (approximately 200 hours) over the subsequent 12 months.

The consulting services will be used to assess the current state of NAAF’s grassroots capacity and develop and implement strategies that enhance that capacity and achieve NAAF’s advocacy objectives. Quarterly reports will measure our progress and at the end of the 12 month period, a workshop will be held to share success stories, “lessons learned,” and models for increasing activism among the Council’s VHA members.
