It’s Basketball Time Again!
Though the dog days of summer and the crisp scent of fall signify
the end of the long days and warm nights, they also show signs of
the beginning of the NBA Basketball Season!
As most of you know, last year the National Alopecia Areata Foundation
(NAAF) introduced Charlie Villanueva (www.cv31.com)
as our Spokesperson, and cheered him on as he toured the country as
a member of the Toronto
Raptors NBA team. For those who may be new to this all, Charlie Villanueva
in an NBA Player who was first affected with alopecia areata at the
age of ten. Now 22, Charlie has alopecia universalis, and wants to
use his place in the spotlight to educate the general public on alopecia
areata, provide children with a role model and get the word out that
individuals with alopecia areata aren’t only extremely healthy,
but talented, too!
Though Charlie was traded this summer and is now a member of the
Milwaukee Bucks, neither his motivation nor his mission has wavered.
We are very excited about the energy behind the Milwaukee Bucks organization
and looking forward to developing fresh ideas to educate even more
individuals about alopecia areata, and provide even more children
with such a notable role model.
Two programs that we are going to continue this year are the Charlie’s
Angels Road Game Program and the Meet & Greets in select cities.
The main objective is the same in both of these programs; to support
Charlie as he supports us.
In the Charlie’s Angels Road Game Program, we are encouraging
local NAAF families to attend a Milwaukee Bucks game when they come
to YOUR town. By organizing an event in your community based around
attending a game, you will meet other families in your area, create
a local media opportunity, and have a great night out watching basketball.
For more information, contact lisa@naaf.org.
The Charlie’s Angels Meet & Greet Program will take place
in select cities across the country. The program, which was conceived
last year through the joint efforts of the Raptors, Charlie & NAAF,
is back by popular demand! Working closely with the Milwaukee Bucks
and volunteers in select cities, NAAF will organize a series of meet & greets,
giving children with alopecia areata the opportunity to meet Charlie
Villanueva. Many factors go into determining where the meet & greets
will take place, and we are very excited about the final line-up for
the 2006-2007 season. If there is a meet in greet in your city, please
contact the Captain for the logistics including the ticket prices,
meeting times, etc.
Of course, Charlie’s work with NAAF will go above and beyond
these programs, and our support for such an inspirational young man
will go beyond the arena. Please keep checking our website for current
information on NAAF, the Milwaukee Bucks & Charlie.
